Fishing Trip at Bear LakeFor 32 years, Spokane Valley firefighters have been taking special needs students from local elementary schools fishing at Bear Lake.

What started as an idea by retiree George Orr has become a tradition for current and retired SVFD firefighters.Bear Lake Fishing Trip

This year, 25 special needs students from Adams and Chester Elementary schools spent a beautiful spring day in May catching and releasing small fish. They also enjoyed a sack lunch with firefighters. For some students, it was their first time fishing.

The accessible dock at Bear Lake was funded, in part, by Spokane Valley Firefighters Local 876. The fishing trip is also supported by the Spokane County Parks Department, Spokane Federal Credit Union (provides lunches) and the Spokane Valley Firefighters Benevolent Association.

However, the largest supporter of the program are members of SVFD who volunteer their time to come out and share a great day with the kids. Thank you for your continued support of this proud SVFD tradition!
