The Greater Inland Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross has honored Spokane Valley Fire Department and Spokane Fire Department (SFD) as 2018 Red Cross Heroes for our partnership with the Home Fire Safety Campaign. Through this campaign, the three organizations have jointly installed thousands of free smoke alarms in vulnerable homes across the region.

In the Spokane Valley Fire Department service area alone, a total of 1,715 smoke alarms were installed in 568 homes in 2017. And, when one of those homes later caught fire, the two residents at home at the time of the fire safely escaped.
