SPOKANE VALLEY FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS SUCCESSFULLY EARNED ACCREDITATION AGAIN

ONLY 1 OF APPROXIMATELY 200 AGENCIES WORLDWIDE

**********************************************

The Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) following months of preparation, has successfully earned Accreditation by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) for the third time.  SVFD originally became Accredited in 2011 and re-accredited in 2016.  Accreditation lasts for 5 years. Today, the Commission unanimously approved SVFD’s Accreditation for another five years (through 2026).  Accreditation is the mark of an agency that understands the importance of continuous improvement.

“We are extremely pleased with the Commission’s unanimous support,” said Spokane Valley Fire Department Fire Chief, Bryan Collins. “Through the Accreditation process, our communities are assured that their tax dollars are being spent in a responsible way with a safe and vibrant community at the forefront of our focus. SVFD provides high quality emergency services, and we are always looking to improve. Those improvements translate directly to our citizens that we serve.  Safer and better operations assure our community that the SVFD identifies and implements industry best practices in all aspects of the organization.”

Accreditation is a comprehensive, rigorous self-assessment and evaluation model that promotes excellence and continuous quality improvement leading to higher service delivery levels for citizens.  There are only about 200 Internationally Accredited Fire and Rescue Departments worldwide to achieve this designation.

The Accreditation process enables fire and emergency service agencies to examine past, current and future service levels and internal performance and compare them to industry best practices. This allows the organization to determine community risk and safety needs and develop community-specific Standards of Cover, evaluate the performance of the department, and establish a method for achieving continuous organizational improvement.

CFAI administers the Accreditation Program for the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). The CFAI accreditation process provides a well-defined, internationally recognized benchmark system to measure the quality of fire and emergency services.
