As we head into summer weather and wildfire season, Spokane Valley Fire Department Fire Chief Bryan Collins and Fire Marshal, Greg Rogers have some fire safety concerns for our community.
Each year fireworks injure thousands of people and cause thousands of fires.
About 2/5 fires started by fireworks each year are reported on the 4th of July Independence Day holiday.
Knowing when and who to call 911 regarding fireworks is essential.
For reporting illegal fireworks or suspicious activities involving fireworks call 9-1-1 and Report suspicious activity immediately.
Reporting illegal activities of fireworks to 9–1-1 should be limited to those instances when the activity is in progress and poses a threat or danger to others or to yourself.
Call the police or fire departments non-emergency numbers for non-threatening or non-emergency fireworks. The non-emergency hotline number is 509.456.2233
Be safe this 4th of July. Celebrate the holiday in a manner that doesn’t harm you, the people around you, or your home and property.
If you have questions or need help to dispose of fireworks properly, call us at the Spokane Valley Fire Department 509.928.1700
We want to keep this community safe and healthy no matter what season it is.
