Maintenance & Operations Replacement Levy

11/11/18

On February 12, 2019, Spokane Valley Fire Department voters will be asked to consider replacing the expiring four-year Maintenance & Operations (M&O) levy.

The four-year M&O Replacement Levy provides essential funding — 54% of SVFD’s annual operating budget — for the continued delivery of high-quality fire, rescue and emergency medical services to a growing population of more than 125,000 citizens across the greater Spokane Valley including Liberty Lake, Millwood and Otis Orchards.

A conservative approach to financial planning means SVFD pays for capital needs — including fire engines and facilities — with levy dollars, thus avoiding the cost of bonded debt for taxpayers.

This is not a new tax. It replaces the current four-year M&O levy that is expiring on Dec. 31, 2019. This M&O levy requires 60% voter approval to pass.
